A Karen man who offered to make people rich by supplying them with cheap crayfish for profitable resale has been arrested and charged with defrauding his eager clients of 25 million baht.
Crime Suppression Division police in Kanchanaburi detained Apirak Thaworncharoensuk, 42, at a rented room in tambon Tha Kradan of Si Sawat district on Thursday. He is a native of Moo 3 village in tambon Ban Kao of Muang district.
A Thai man of Karen origin, Mr Apirak was wanted under arrest warrants issued by courts in Nonthaburi and Ayutthaya provinces in December and April on charges of fraud and computer crime.
Pol Col Thongchai Yuket, a CSD subdivision commander, who led the arrest, said Mr Apirak opened a website and claimed to be a Singaporean capable of importing cheap but quality crayfish for resale. He demanded deposits and crayfish-raising fees from customers.
After receiving money, the suspect failed to deliver any crayfish, repeatedly saying that imports had not arrived, and other excuses.
He never delivered a single crayfish and his investors were down 25 million baht with nothing to show for it, Pol Col Thongchai said.
