Kareem Abdul-Jabbar anticipates a strong season from LeBron James

You can always Count Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar among the biggest LeBron fans in Lakers Nation. Time and again, the NBA’s All-Time leading scorer has commended James for his on-court greatness as well as his willingness to speak to issues away from the world of sports. And when asked most recently about his expectations for LeBron’s 17th season, he doesn’t expect anything else than what we’ve seen for the past 16.

Abdul-Jabbar told USA TODAY’s NBA writer Mark Medina that James has a “good” season in front of him and that even if LeBron slows down, slowing down for LeBron means something different for him than it means for other stars.

“LeBron doesn’t have many problems. Things went south with injuries to him and the team. But those things happen. LeBron isn’t trying to come back from a career-threatening injury. He’s just slowing down a little bit. But when you’re LeBron and you slow down, you’re talking about a different level of slowing down.”

Expectations around the Lakers are the highest they’ve been since they traded for Dwight Howard and Steve Nash just before the 2012-13 season. Obviously Kareem thinks LeBron and Anthony Davis will have a better go at it than those Lakers did.
