Karamoko Dembele lifts lid on Celtic hopes and dealing with pressure after breakthrough

Karamoko Dembele will join the Celtic first team contingent heading out to Austria for the pre-season training camp this week.

And the 16-year-old Hoops prodigy is determined to build on his top team breakthrough by forcing his way into Neil Lennon 's plans on a regular basis.

Dembele was handed a debut in the final Premiership match of the season as the Hoops celebrated 8 in a row with a 2-1 win over Hearts at Parkhead.

Dembele - who made headlines as a 13-year-old when he was fielded in an U20 match three years ago - came on as a second half substitute against the Jambos.

And, speaking to Celtic TV before heading out to Austria, the teenager has described how the experience left him beaming from cheek to cheek.

He said: "It was unbelievable because I wasn't really expecting it. When I was coming on everyone was singing my name and it was crazy.

"It was quite hard not to smile but it was really nice.

"As soon as I got on the pitch I just never wanted the game to finish. Now I'm looking forward to this season to hopefully get another chance.

"It was something to look forward to. The finally getting to do it was kind of a relief.

"This season is just about focusing on getting in the first team and getting as many opportunities as I can. Doing it in training and proving it in games aswell, just be relentless with it."

He added: "There's been a lot of attention and a lot of pressure but I've dealt with it well to be honest with me and my family and everyone helping me to just focus on football.

Dembele has already began pre-season with the top team and has revealed how the pace and intensity has been cranked up from what he is used to.

"It's really intense," he said. "This is my first pre-season with the first team and it's good to get that experience.

"It's much different because the players are more experienced, more physical and it will obviously help me in the future.

"Everything is much quicker when you are first team so you need to think quicker, play quicker. It's really good for my progression.

"It's obviously another opportunity for me to get into the first team and to learn from everyone aswell. This is obviously my first pre-season so it will be really good to see what it's like.

"There's going to be games over there and it will be good to get a chance to prove myself."
