Kaoru Mitoma told not to sign for Arsenal this summer amid £70m transfer claim

Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma has been linked with a summer transfer to Arsenal in recent times.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, via Caught Offside, the north London outfit have the Japanese international on their radar, having previously both Leandro Trossard and Ben White from the Seagulls over the last two years. However, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has now urged Mitoma not to join Trossard and White in north London at the end of the current campaign.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor said: “Mitoma has been excellent, obviously, for Brighton but it’s so different when you go to a top club. We’ve seen it so many times with players who can’t do it at the higher level after making the step up.

“Just because you have a good season doesn’t mean you’re instantly going to succeed when you move for £60million or £70million. I think Mitoma should stay at Brighton another season and go to the next level because they’re a club on the up.”

Mitoma has provided six goals and a further three assists in the Premier League this term, statistics that read even more impressive when you consider he has done so in just 1270 minutes. That means he has had a direct hand in a goal every 141 minutes in the league this term.
