Kanye West remains uncharacteristically quiet about one issue on Tuesday morning - Taylor Swift’s apparent riposte during her Grammy’s acceptance speech.
The singer used the platform given to her as the first woman to win the best album award twice to deliver a speech condemning those who “try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame”, widely considered to be a thinly veiled reference to West.
In a cool address, Swift told the audience: “As the first woman to win album of the year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there: there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and don't let those people sidetrack you, some day when you get where you're going you will look around and know it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
A rap from West’s new song “Famous” sparked controversy with the lyrics: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ Why? I made that b***h famous,” which he has staunchly defended. The unimpressed reaction from Swift’s famous friends was followed by West sharing a number of tweets claiming she approved and even found the song amusing. But he has yet to respond to Swift’s speech overnight.
However, West was tweeting after the ceremony to thank Adidas for helping his ideas come to fruition at the Yeezey fashion show at Madison Square Gardens, where the Swift controversy was reignited.
He had pledged not to attend the Grammys unless he was guaranteed album of the year, adding in a tweet: “I am the Jordan and Steph Curry of music, meaning I'm the best of two generations.”
