Kanye West 'running for President' and wins backing from billionaire Elon Musk

Kanye West has whipped fans and followers into a frenzy by declaring his intention to run for President of the Unites States of America.

The 43-year-old has previously vowed to run for office – and has now yet again expressed his intention to run for the highest office in the land of the USA.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday – and in the midst of 4 July Independence Day celebrations – the self proclaimed genius made clear to all he wanted to be president.

The rap star may step on the toes of his friend, President Donald Trump, however, as he made his intention to run for office this year – setting himself on a collision course for power against the current President.

Kanye tweeted: “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future.”

He dramatically added: “I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”

New best friend Elon Musk – the billionaire owner of car manufacturer Tesla and the Space X project – immediately threw his support behind the singer.

The 49-year-old South African businessman tweeted: “You have my full support!”

It is unclear if Kanye will be launching a political party of his own in order to fully embrace his dream.

Last year, he teased plans for a 2024 election campaign during an interview with Zane Lowe.

He said last October: “There will be a time when I will be President of the United States.

“And I will remember…any founder that didn’t have the capacity to understand culturally what we’re doing.”

The following month he declared during an appearance at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City that he intended to run.

He said, as the crowd began to laugh at him: "When I run for president in 2024, we’re going to definitely – yo whatchu all laughing at?

"When I run for president in 2024, we would’ve created so many jobs that, in fact, I’m going to walk."

His latest tweet to move his campaign forward four years has been something of a hit with fans.

One replied, tweeting: "I been writing his name in already on ballots."

While another vowed: "I will be voting for Kanye West for President."
