Kanye West joins students at Chicago protest against George Floyd killing

Kanye West has returned to his home city of Chicago to join protesters against George Floyd's killing.

The 42-year-old rapper wanted to take direct action after pledging $2 million to funds to help the family of George Floyd as well as the grieving families of Ahmaud Arbrery, and Breonna Taylor following their deaths.

Kanye joined Chicago Public Schools students to protest as well as to demand CPS cancel their contract with the Chicago Police Department.

He has also vowed to donate to several black-owned businesses in his hometown of Chicago and nationwide, that have been hit by the crisis spreading across the United States.

Wearing a grey hoodie over a yellow t-shirt, with a black PPE mask covering his mouth and nose, Kanye was in the thick of the protest on the streets.

A representative for the rapper, who is married to reality star Kim Kardashian, told CNN that Kanye has set up a college fund for George Floyd's young daughter Gianna Floyd, six.

The 529 education plan will fully cover the youngster's higher education costs.

His massive donation comes as people around the globe mobilise and take part in wide-spread protest sparked by George Floyd's death at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin.

Kanye has joined a long list of celebrities that have voiced their support of the Black Lives Matter movement and made enormous contributions.

His donation followed days after Kim Kardashian offered to pay for the medical bills of a young protester Shannyn Sharyse Nara, who was reportedly hit in the face with a rubber bullet.

Among the other celebrities that have dug deep to support the movement was Drake, who has committed $100,000 to the National Bail Out collective.

The Weekend has also matched Drake's donation and directed a further $200,000 to Black Lives Matter Global Network.
