Who would be the greatest Super Bowl halftime performer of all time?
Obviously, Kanye West, or at least that's the belief of more than 1,300 supporters (as of Wednesday afternoon) who have signed a Change.org petition to pitch the NFL on West as the halftime performer at Super Bowl LI in Houston.
Other singers and rappers need not apply, because as West himself tweeted in February: "You may be talented but you're not Kanye West."
NFL officials, in a joint statment with Pepsi, said they've talked with several artists but haven't extended any offers, shooting down Adele's claim that she rejected their overture. The statement:
"The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time."
Brian Sporman, 18, of New Jersey, started the petition this week. He said West would bring a different energy to the concert. "I feel the Super Bowl is well overdue for a groundbreaking performance like West will put on."
