Kanye West 'drops $30k to get name on presidential ballot' in bid to remain in race

Kanye West reportedly spent thousands of dollars in a desperate attempt to make the presidential ballot in the US state of Illinois.

The 43-year-old rapper, who faced a stint in hospital yesterday, is believed to have dropped a total of $30,000 (£23,450) paying for people's signatures in order to get his name onto the ticket in the state.

Kanye's latest attempt to push forward with a presidential bid follows after a chaotic campaign rally in South Carolina and a string of tweets that appeared to take digs at his wife Kim Kardashian and her family.

According to TMZ, Kanye's team managed to gather the 2,500 signatures required to get onto the Illinois ballot with just one day to spare before the deadline.

The rapper reportedly enlisted the help of a third-party group called Let The Voters Decide, who then sent a team of 45 staff to canvas the area.

The publication reported that the team amassed 3,178 in less than 24-hours.

Kanye is said to have paid very well for the signatures, and gave each signer $10-12 for their support.

According to one of the staff gathering signatures, who spoke to TMZ, the team went from door to door asking if people would support Kanye getting onto the ballot.

He then paid $10 per signature on his rounds.

The publication also reported that Kanye's hefty payment plan was substantially larger than the standard rate for signature payments, that tends to range between $1-3.

MirrorOnline have contacted Kanye West's representative for comment.

At the start of this month, Kanye announced that he was running for the US presidency and although he has faced some setbacks, the rapper is steaming forward with his bid.

Although he has submitted some of the paperwork, he has already missed deadlines to get his name on the ballot in several states including Michigan and Florida.

Aside from his political endeavours, Kanye recently shocked fans with a series of sensational claims which included that he had tried to divorce his wife for the last two years.

Yesterday, the Yeezy designer apologised to his wife on Twitter for airing their private life and then reportedly went to hospital for ten minutes before leaving again.

An ambulance was later spotted arriving at his ranch in Wyoming.
