A multi-part documentary exploring the life of Kanye West has reportedly been sold to Netflix for $30m (approximately £22m).

As first reported by Billboard, West partnered with a filmmaking duo and allowed them to chronicle the past 21 years of his life on camera.

The docuseries will feature never-before-seen footage of West and will explore the artist-turned-entrepreneur’s life and work, including his failed presidential campaign last year and the death of his mother, Donda West.

While Billboard puts the sale at $30m (£21.7m), a source “familiar with the matter” has told Variety that the sum is not an accurate figure.

The Independent has contacted a representative of Netflix for comment.

The publication reports that the untitled project was acquired by Netflix from Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, more commonly known as Coodie & Chike, who directed two of West’s first music videos for “Through the Wire” (2004) and the third version of “Jesus Walks”.

The documentary is expected to arrive on Netflix later this year.

Earlier this year, West won his 22nd Grammy award when he took home the prize for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album with his 2019 album Jesus is King.
