Kanye West denies being 'stumped' by Trump question on Jimmy Kimmel: 'I wasn't given a chance to answer'

Kanye West has claimed his silence following a question about Trump asked by TV host Jimmy Kimmel was due to having no time to reply.

Following his appearance on Kimmel's US chat show, West's lack of an answer after being asked whether he thought the president cared about black people has since been highlighted by the media forcing the rapper to clarify the moment.

On Twitter, the rapper denied he was “stumped” by the question, writing: “On Jimmy Kimmel. we had a great time having a dialogue. I’m reading that I was stumped by a question. Let me clarify the click bait. I wasn't given a chance to answer the question.”

The interview saw West address his continued support for Trump with the African-American artist telling Kimmel “everyone around me tried to pick my candidate for me.”

Despite the perception that “blacks can only be Democrats,” the 41-year-old rap star told Kimmel that his support isn’t about politics, as he is “not a politician,” it is about “overcoming fear.”

It was here where Kimmel questioned West on Trump's views, highlighting West's previous 2005 claim that President George W Bush “doesn't care about black people.”

He asked: “What makes you think that Donald Trump does - or any people at all?” and West's silence prompted a commercial break.

The outspoken artist has previously expressed his support for the president by wearing a red Make America Great Again hat and referring to President Trump as “my brother.”
