Kanye West claims God told him to invade stage and confront Taylor Swift

Kanye West has claimed that he could do nothing to stop himself confronting Taylor Swift on stage during her 2009 VMAs acceptance speech.

The 43-year-old rapper has opened up about the infamous moment in which he stormed the stage to demand that Taylor Swift's Best Female Video was given to Beyonce instead.

The committed Christian has told Nick Cannon's podcast that he was under orders from God at the time and the reason why he was there was because that was what God had planned for him that night.

It has been 11 years since that infamous moment and this is the first time that Kanye has addressed it directly and has said that he had no idea who Taylor was at the time.

Kanye said that it was God that ensured he was seated in the front row, so that he could have quick access to the stage and that he was just carry out the wishes of the Lord.

Kanye told Cannon's Class podcast: "Right now, God is giving me the information.

"If God ain’t want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row. I would’ve been sitting in the back."

Taylor was receiving the award for her music video to You Belong To Me, when Kanye entered stage right.

He continued: “They wouldn’t have made it the first award. It’s so ridiculous of an idea because, I had never heard of this person [Taylor] before, and ‘Single Ladies’ is, like, one of the greatest videos of all time."

Some had pointed to the fact that Kanye had been drinking from a bottle of Hennessy throughout, from the red carpet onwards, but he dismissed this as a "set up".

Kanye continued: “And I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn’t want to go to the awards show because it was a set-up."
