With its 30 tracks, running time of more than two hours, dozens of guest contributors and songs said to each represent 48 minutes of one day (thus adding up neatly to 24 hours), punters might be forgiven for mistaking this album for a hip-opera. Instead, it turns out to be merely a pairing of middling spoken-word lyrics from Def Poetry Jam graduate Malik Yusef with the offcuts from Kanye West's studio floor. Quite what distinguishes Malik's rhymes from ordinary rap is a moot point - as are his themes, which variously take in money, partying, sex, sex and again sex. The highlights - Magic Man, Promise Land - are those that feature verses from West, but elsewhere only the autotuned vocals and chipmunk-voice samples appear to denote his presence. In fact, the true extent of West's involvement in the album is unclear, and his official credit, as executive producer, might not quite justify the prominence of his name on the cover.
