Kanye West and Jay-Z are heading into the studio for a full-length collaboration. The rappers are recording a joint album, reportedly titled Watch the Throne.
Instead of wrestling over a rap crown, Kanye and Hov have decided to share it. "We're going [into the studio] ... at the end of the month, to just record new ideas," West told MTV News. "But we'll probably be done with the album in a day or whatever."
West has been hyping the team up on Twitter since August. But the two rappers' ambition has grown: Watch the Throne was initially proposed as a short EP. "We putting out a whole album now," West confirmed. This will be Jay-Z's fourth joint release, after two previous collaboration albums with R Kelly and an EP with Linkin Park.
While this is their first time sharing top billing, West and Jay-Z have worked together for years. Jay-Z's 2001 album, The Blueprint, featured West as producer, and they have traded verses on plenty of records since then. Most recently, Jay-Z has appeared on several of West's G.O.O.D. Friday tracks, released free online. Though cuts such as Monster and So Appalled were first intended for Watch the Throne, West has decided to, er, keep them for himself. "We had done five [tracks]," West explained, "but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album [My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy]. Sorry Jay."
