Kante, Koulibaly, Kovacic, Gallagher: Chelsea injury news and return dates ahead of Southampton

Chelsea returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they beat Leicester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. However, a spritely display was tarnished by Conor Gallagher picking up a red-card for the Blues.

Raheem Sterling scored his first and second for the west Londoners side in what was a much-improved second-half performance. Harvey Barnes replied for Leicester, but it was merely a consolation.

The Blues return to action this evening as they host Southampton. And, while Thomas Tuchel will be without N'Golo Kante through injury and Gallagher due to suspension, Kalidou Koulibaly will return.

So, with that said, football.london rounds up the very latest in the way of injury and suspension news.

Kalidou Koulibaly

The Senegal international will return to the Chelsea squad for the game against the Saints after the defender served his one-match suspension against Leicester.

What Tuchel said: "I see a lot of quality and everything that is needed to be a leading figure at Chelsea. He will be on the pitch at Southampton, he is a massive player for us, and there's no doubt about it."

Conor Gallagher

However, as one suspension ends, another one starts. Gallagher was shown two yellow cards in the first-half against Leicester and will be forced to sit out of the game with Southampton on Tuesday.

What Tuchel said: "It was a bad decision from Conor and gave us a massive disadvantage in these conditions where we come from a defeat and it’s so hot."

N'Golo Kante

The French midfielder missed last weekend's trip up north having hobbled off the pitch against Tottenham after an excellent display and won't be available to face his former side. The 31-year-old is set to miss a handful of fixtures over the coming weeks.

What Tuchel said: "We're talking about weeks. Four weeks plus."

Mateo Kovacic

Mateo Kovacic made his return from injury against Leicester City at the weekend with a cameo off of the bench. Ordinarily, the Croatian may not be in contention to start but Chelsea are in the midst of a crisis in midfield. Tuchel has said that he not ready to start anyway...

What Tuchel said: "The headache before the season was whether we had too many players there, but it comes to the fifth game, and maybe we only have two left with experience in this position and Kova from the bench because he is not ready to play full matches at Premier League level as he only had a week after training after his injury. It's a strange situation and a situation we don't like."
