Kante, Chilwell and Havertz — Chelsea injury round-up before Manchester United fixture

Chelsea cruised past Juventus 4-0 to go top of their Champions League group earlier this week.

Reece James was one of the standouts with his defensive and attacking display for the Londoners as Timo Werner got himself back among the goals, rounding off the scoring at Stamford Bridge.

But their win came at a cost after Thomas Tuchel saw two of his key players limp off ahead of the clash with Manchester United this weekend, as the Blues look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.

Michael Carrick will be in the dugout for United after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but goes into the trip to the capital buoyed by securing Champions League knockout stage qualification with the win over Villarreal.

Kai Havertz limped out of Chelsea's win at Leicester last weekend and will be a doubt for the visit of United with a hamstring injury.

Mateo Kovacic will miss the clash with a thigh injury. Tuchel admitted that the Croatian will "miss more matches" until he is fully recovered from the problem.

Two more injury problems followed for Chelsea in the Juventus game. N'Golo Kante was the first to trudge off, mustering just 37 minutes before suffering a twisted knee, Tuchel confirmed.

Ben Chilwell also suffered an injury in the knee area after a coming together in the middle of the pitch shortly after the hour mark.

Chelsea face an anxious wait over his scan results and will be eager for him to get back to fitness, with the England international in fine form of late.

"It worries me because he was in such a fantastic moment — like Reece (James) on the other side," Tuchel said speaking after the midweek win.

"They were in the best shape they could possibly be, so strong and so confident and with such a lot of quality.

"He was in a lot of pain, now he feels a bit better. He has an examination to be more precise. Hopefully, we get away, fingers crossed, with not too bad news.

"With N'Golo, it's a bit the same. He got stronger and stronger in the first half but twisted his knee a little bit. Hopefully it's not too bad."
