'Kantara' leads the box office; 'Phone Bhoot', 'Mili' and 'Double XL' open to dull response

Even after months of its release, Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’ still led the box office today despite release of three Bollywood movies – ‘Phone Bhoot’, ‘Mili’ and ‘Double XL’.

The Katrina Kaif, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ishaan Khatter starrer was expected to do well amongst the three releases. However, the film reportedly opened to a dull 5 to 10 percent response with a decent release of 1300-1400 screens. Despite the film being a horror-comedy, it starred A-lister Katrina in the lead. Although the genre has quite a potential, ‘Phone Bhoot’ took a spoofy route, which does not have many takers in India, a report on boxofficeIndia.com stated.

‘Phone Bhoot’ will reportedly need a huge growth on Saturday to stand a chance at the box office. However, it has still done much better than the films it locked horns with at the box office.

‘Mili’ and ‘Double XL’ would have reportedly done much better on streaming platforms. However, the problem is the streaming giants want a theatrical release so the films are just released for the sake of it.

As far as ‘Kantara’ is concerned, the Rishab Shetty starrer is leading the race currently. It is reportedly still holding up well.
