Kansas (1-0) vs. Coastal Carolina (0-1) Game Preview

Why Coastal Carolina Will Win

Kansas struggled way, way too much against Indiana State.

The Jayhawks got up early, but the Sycamores were able to come back late in the 24-17 loss. Kansas came up with some some key takeaways, but it also turned the ball over three times to keep from pulling away.

Coastal Carolina got a big passing day from Fred Payton in the 30-23 loss to Eastern Michigan – he threw for 304 yards – but it was the run defense that came up big and made it a game. The active Chanticleer linebackers were able to swarm all over the Eagles, holding them to fewer than three yards per carry.

Kansas couldn’t run on Indiana State, having problems keeping the Sycamores out of the backfield, and not doing much of anything outside of two long runs. If CCU can keep KU from breaking off anything big, it’ll keep this close. But …

Why Kansas Will Win

Back comes Pooka Williams after being suspended for the opener. The Kansas offense needs a burst, and he’ll bring it.

Coastal Carolina was able to move the ball on Eastern Michigan, but four interceptions from Fred Payton were killers. The bigger problem? The secondary was picked clean.

EMU QB Mike Glass isn’t exactly Drew Brees, but he was just that accurate, hitting 20-of-22 passes to dink, dink, dink back into the game. KU QB Carter Stanley wasn’t dynamic last week, but he completed 20-of-29 throws, and he didn’t throw a pick.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

What’s Going To Happen

Coastal Carolina is dealing with a whole lot more than the trip to Kansas, with the hurricane issues forcing the team to relocate. In Lawrence, the Chanticleer offense will stall just enough to keep the door open for the Jayhawks, but it’ll still be a fight for Les Miles in his second game at the helm. Kansas will pull away late, helped by a few key takeaways to make it interesting.
