Kansas State Wildcats land defensive back transfer Kiondre Thomas from Minnesota

The Kansas State football team added an experienced defender to its roster on Monday.

Kiondre Thomas, a 6 foot and 190 pound defensive back redshirt junior who has played three seasons of college football, announced that he will transfer away from Minnesota and play for the Wildcats next season.

After spending the past three seasons with the Golden Gophers, Thomas will be eligible to play immediately in Manhattan as a graduate transfer.

Thomas made 77 tackles, broke up seven passes and recovered one fumble while playing cornerback during his three seasons at Minnesota. He played in all 13 games last season, starting four.

"First off I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the University of Minnesota for the past four years," he wrote on social media. I've made unbreakable bonds with my teammates and memories that'll last a life time! I wish nothing but the best for my former teammates/brothers."

"I'd like to thank Coach (P.J.) Fleck and the entire defensive staff for everything they've done for me from helping develop into a better player to an even better person, and with that being said I'm very excited to announce that I'll be playing my final year at Kansas State University!"

Thomas is the first football recruit or transfer that K-State has landed since the coronavirus pandemic brought all in-person recruiting to a halt nearly one month ago.

He will help provide depth in K-State's secondary as the Wildcats look to build on the strong season they had against the past last year.
