Kansas hits 15 3s and Self records 600th victory in 105-62 win over UMKC

LAWRENCE, Kan. _ A record-setting barrage of 3-pointers helped Kansas' basketball team bury UMKC 105-62 on Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse, and in the process gave coach Bill Self his 600th victory in a 24-year career.

Frank Mason hit a career-best six 3s and tied a career high with 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting (6 of 7 on 3-pointers), while Devonte Graham tied a career high with six 3s (in eight tries) en route to 18 points as the Jayhawks hiked Self's all-time record to 600-189.

KU hit 15 of 27 3-pointers, which is the most 3s ever made by the Jayhawks in a game at Allen Fieldhouse. KU's previous best in a home game was 14 against Long Beach State on Nov. 29, and on two other occasions, against Tennessee Tech in 2009 and Texas Tech in 2008.

The most 3s for KU in any game is 16 at Baylor in 2005.

The Jayhawks iced nine 3s in the first half, which tied a record for most 3-pointers by a KU team in a half, accomplished five times, including the win over Long Beach State.

Josh Jackson contributed 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting with a career-best 12 rebounds

The win was No. 393 for Self against 84 losses in 14 seasons at KU.

Led by Mason and Graham, who each hit three 3-pointers in four tries in the first half, KU led UMKC 51-35 at halftime. KU connected on nine 3s in 15 attempts in the half, while UMKC hit eight of 15.

UMKC, which made 10 of 26 3-pointers, came out firing from beyond the arc, hitting six of its first seven. Mason was 3 of 4 on 3s and scored 17 points in the first half, while Jackson had 11 points. Graham, like Mason, hit three 3-pointers and had nine points.

KU grabbed an early 13-3 lead, thanks to 3s by Mason, Vick and Graham. KU upped the lead to 22-11 and 38-24.

UMKC, 6-3, was led by LaVell Boyd, who scored 17 points.

KU, 8-1, will next meet Nebraska at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse. The Cornhuskers, 5-3, who snapped a three-game losing streak (UCLA, Virginia Tech, Clemson) by beating South Dakota 73-61 on Saturday in Lincoln, play Creighton on Wednesday night in Lincoln.

If KU wins Saturday, it would mark the 750th all-time victory in Allen Fieldhouse. KU has lost 109 games in the building, which was dedicated in 1955.

Self was honored after the game with a video that included clips from several of his former players, including Keith Langford, Sherron Collins, Perry Ellis, Mario Chalmers, Tyrel Reed, Aaron Miles, Cole Aldrich, Russell Robinson, Jamari Traylor and Darnell Jackson.
