Kansas crushes overmatched Omaha squad, 109-64

LAWRENCE, Kan. _ Kansas completed a two-game sweep of teams from the Cornhusker State on Monday night, clobbering Omaha 109-64 just two days after a narrow, one-point victory over Nebraska in Lincoln.

The 14th-ranked Jayhawks (9-2), who needed a block from Udoka Azubuike on Nebraska's last possession to preserve a 73-72 victory Saturday over the Big Ten's Cornhuskers, rolled to a 55-29 lead at halftime over the Mavericks (3-11), a Summit League team that entered as 33 {-point underdogs.

Svi Mykhailiuk, who hit the game-winning 3-point basket in Lincoln, exploded for 26 points Monday, one off a career high. He hit 10 of 13 shots, including a career-high tying six 3-pointers in seven tries.

KU's Devonte Graham hit five 3s and scored 17 points, with eight assists against two turnovers. Lagerald Vick had 15 points and 9 rebounds for the Jayhawks, and Malik Newman, who did not score at Nebraska, scored 14 points.

Azubuike scored 11 points and tied a career high with 12 boards for the Jayhawks, who are 2-0 since that two-game losing streak over a five-day span to Pac-12 teams Washington and Arizona State.

Sam Cunliffe, who was playing his first home game, had nine points for KU.

KU football tight end James Sosinski played in his first basketball game for the Jayhawks since joining the squad before the loss to Washington on Dec. 6. Sosinski, a 6-foot-7, 260-pound sophomore forward, scored his first points as a Jayhawk on a bank shot at 2:11. He also put in a stickback and finished with four points and two rebounds in 4 minutes.

He averaged 19.1 points and 12.6 rebounds per game his freshman year at South Mountain Community College in Arizona.

Kansas hit 16 3-pointers in 27 tries. The school record for 3s in a game is 19. KU made 62.3 percent of its shots overall and outrebounded Omaha 49-26. Omaha hit 9 of 28 3-pointers and 33.3 percent overall from the field.

KU made 10 of 14 3-pointers in the first half to open a 55-29 lead at the break. Mykhailiuk hit three 3-pointers in as many tries and scored 15 points, while Graham made four 3-pointers in five tries and scored 14 points with five assists and two rebounds in the initial half.

Vick had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Newman and Cunliffe had five points apiece.

Wichita, Kan.-native Zach Jackson had six points and six rebounds in 17 minutes for Omaha in the first half. He finished with 10 points and 10 boards.

Mykhailiuk scored nine points, Vick had five and Graham had three points with three assists as KU raced to a 20-10 lead at the 12:54 mark. KU used a 12-4 run to stretch a 20-14 lead to 32-18 at 8:11. Five players _ Marcus Garrett, Cunliffe, Azubuike, Graham and Mykhailiuk _ scored in that run.

The Jayhawks hit 58.8 percent of their shots the first half to Omaha's 36.7 percent. Omaha hit 3 of 12 3-pointers in the first half and went 4 of 9 from the line. KU hit 5 of 7 first-half free throws and outrebounded the Mavericks, 26-11.

KU will next meet Stanford at 10 p.m. Thursday in Sacramento, Calif.
