Feb. 04--Kansas Coach Bill Self wasn't happy after the Jayhawks' 77-59 victory over rival Kansas State on Wednesday night.
Or at least he wasn't happy with one of his players.
In the final seconds of his team's blowout win, Kansas' Brannen Greene should have just held the ball and let time run out. But instead, the junior guard decided to take it to the hoop for an uncontested dunk that left his coach fuming.
Self started his postgame news conference by saying: "I'd like to first apologize to the K-State team and their program, coaches, players, for the unsportsmanlike act that one of our players did at the end of the game that was totally classless. I guarantee it'll never happen again."
The coach continued to criticize Greene during a radio interview that night.
"Brannen Greene, we've put up with him doing some stuff in the past, but that was probably the biggest [jerk] move I've ever had a player do during a game," Self said. "To dunk the ball like that when the other team -- even their players are going, 'How disrespectful to the game.'
"It certainly showed unbelievably poor sportsmanship."
Later in the interview, Self added, ""I'm so [angry] right now that we represented the way we did at the end."
Greene had a four-point play earlier in the game and finished with eight points in six minutes.
This isn't the first time he has faced the wrath of his coach. Self suspended Greene for five games earlier this season for "for conduct detrimental to the team," reportedly for a heated argument over playing time.
Greene also served one-game suspensions during each of his first two seasons with the team.
