Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed is mourning the death of his oldest brother, T'Qarontarion "TQ" Harrison, a man he credited with raising him until Sneed turned 6 years old.
Harrison was stabbed and killed during an incident Friday night in Minden, Louisiana, according to police. He was 32.
Minden police arrested Angela Washington, 47, who was charged with one count of second degree homicide, according to Lt. Chris Hammontree.
Sneed was traveling to Minden, his hometown, on Saturday. He has not yet decided if he will play Sunday, when the Chiefs host the Raiders at noon in Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs added him to the injury report for personal reasons and listed him as questionable.
Until his sixth birthday, Sneed grew up with both of his parents serving prison sentences. Although he lived with his maternal grandmother, Sneed said Harrison, eight years his elder, took accountability in raising him.
Sneed shared his background with The Kansas City Star in a story published last month.
"My brother took over — he raised me," Sneed said then. "He did what he had to do."
When talking with The Star on Nov. 7, Harrison affectionately referred to Sneed as "my little dude," describing their relationship as "closer than most brothers because of what we went through in life."
At just 9 years old, Harrison changed diapers and took over responsibility for cooking meals, laundering and ironing clothes and walking his brothers to school.
"It was a wonderful experience — something God put us through," Harrison told The Star in that interview last month. "We overcome all obstacles. I wouldn't trade it for nothing."
