Kansas basketball stunned after Snoop Dogg does Snoop Dogg things

The Kansas Jayhawks basketball team kicked off its 2019-20 season with “Late Night in the Phog” on Friday, an evening that was capped by an eyebrow-raising performance by rap legend Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg delivered a show that may not have been suitable for any kids in attendance, complete with explicit lyrics and pole dancers.

During the performance, Snoop fired fake $100 bills with a money gun into the crowd.

The timing and content of Snoop’s show is awkward for Kansas, to say the least. In September, just a few days after the program was charged with a lack of institutional control and Bill Self was alleged to have an improper ties to Adidas, Self seemingly trolled the NCAA by wearing an Adidas shirt and a money chain to promote Snoop Dogg’s upcoming performance.

In a statement after the performance, director of athletics Jeff Long offered an apology “to anyone who was offended,” and said that Snoop Dogg was not thoroughly vetted.

“We made it clear to the entertainer’s managers that we expected a clean version of the show.”

Earlier in the day, Long posed for photos with Snoop.

Coach Self said that he believed Snoop Dogg would deliver a “radio friendly” performance.

“That’s not the direction that anybody at our school would want that to go, at all. Regardless of the entertainment that it provided many. It was still not the right way to provide the entertainment.”

Kansas, if you’re looking for squeaky clean, maybe don’t hire Snoop Dogg! Flo Rida may be available in 2020.
