KANPUR: A 24-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attacking his father with knife and then slitting his throat in Gujaini’s C block area on Sunday night.
The victim was identified as Jeet Kumar Shukla (55). On Tuesday night, Jeet’s elder son Nikhil attacked him with a knife. When other family members including Jeet’s wife, father-in-law and younger son came to his rescue, he attacked them also and fled. Jeet suffered deep injuries and died on the spot, while his wife and father-in-law were admitted to hospital.
According to the family members, while attacking his father, Nikhil repeatedly said ‘what would you do by living. Everyone should die..What is kept here?’
On being informed, the Govind Nagar police along with a forensic team reached and arrested the accused from GOvind Nagra area.
Jeet Kumar, a native of Gajner area of Kanpur Dehat, worked as a contractor. He lived with his wife Suman, sons Nikhil and Akhil at the house of his father-in-law Ram Bharose, a resident of Gujaini C Block, said the police adding, “Nikhil has been staying at home after pursuing intermediate, while Akhil is in class XI. Jeets’ wife Suman said that their son Nikhil was a drug addict and was also reeling under some mental imbalance.”
The police said, Jeet reprimanded Nikhil for consuming alcohol on Sunday night. “Whole family went to sleep on the first floor but Jeet stayed downstairs. At around 4am, Nikhil came downstairs and hit his father on the head with an iron bar. Later, he slit his throat with a knife and fled,” they added.
DCP South Salman Taj Patil said, “The accused was arrested within four hours of the incident. We are questioning the family members as to what prompted the accused to resort to such an extreme step. ”
