Kangana Ranaut’s sex moans too loud for CBFC, Simran gets 10 cuts

Be it Pahlaj Nihalani or Prasoon Joshi, things do not seem to have become any less strict at Central Board of Film Certification. Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Simran is reportedly the latest victim to undergo the brutal scissors of censor board.

According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, the board recommended 10 cuts in the film, all of which have been accepted by the filmmakers. The word ‘b**ch’ has been omitted in six places. “Derogating women by gesture or language will never be permissible under any guideline, be it Pahlaj or Prasoon,” a source from the film told the daily.

Another, more unbelievable change was the order to reduce the characters’ loud moans during sex. “The sound effect made the sex scene look far more provocative than it actually was so it was asked to be toned down,” the source added. The censor board also asked the makers to tone down the sound effects of a slap in a scene.

After the strict tenure of Pahlaj Nihalani and his removal from the post in August, his replacement, lyricist and adman Prasoon Joshi, was expected to bring fresh change to the functioning of the board.

Simran is the story of a woman with a gambling problem. Director Hansal Mehta says, “Simran is the story of Praful Patel, a Gujarati girl in the suburbs of Georgia who has aspirations and wants more freedom than she already has. In the process, she gets embroiled in debts and then crime but the film is, essentially, a story of hope. Simran, the character and the film is about the pursuit of happiness. I believe people will relate to it because all of us are in search of happiness.”

The film releases on Friday.
