Kane Hemmings agrees Dundee wage cut as players hailed for safeguarding Dens Park club's future

Dundee have thanked their players for agreeing to wage cuts that will protect the club's financial situation.

The club had asked James McPake's men to accept decreased salaries in light of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic and lower than anticipated season ticket uptake.

Clause 12 in the standard SPFL contract could have been activated in the case of players that refused to agree, which would have resulted in the Dark Blues withholding player wages.

Coach Jimmy Nicholl and sports scientist Cammy McDermid were also let go last month as part of ongoing cost-cutting.

Last week the only player that hadn't accepted the wage cuts that remained at the club was striker Kane Hemmings.

He will stay at Dens Park as Dundee expressed their gratitude with those that remain for the coming Scottish Championship campaign.

However, some players such as club captain Josh Meekings and Andrew Nelson have already chosen to depart.

A statement read: "Dundee Football Club can confirm that our player consultation process has now come to an end.

"We are delighted to say that all the players who entered the process and remain with the club have taken the decision to help safeguard the future of Dundee Football Club.

"The club would like to thank the players for their commitment in these difficult times."
