KANAZAWA -- Visitors view autumn foliage lit up during an illumination event at Kenrokuen garden in Kanazawa on Saturday. Bathed in the light of about 64 floodlights and about 170 paper lanterns, Kenrokuen, often cited as one of Japan's three great gardens, has an enchanting atmosphere. The pine trees are tied using a technique called yukitsuri to provide protection from the heavy winter snows. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Nov. 28, and admission is free during these hours.
