The Shonan area of Kanagawa Prefecture, in which roads along the coast had been jam packed even after visitors were asked to avoid the general vicinity because of the spread of the new coronavirus, traffic became so scarce there was no noticeable congestion on Saturday.

Public parking lots along the coast were closed the previous weekend, but many visitors were seen at the beach, causing congestion. Kanagawa prefecture put up a sign calling for people to refrain from visiting the area on Thursday. A digital message board along Route 134 read, "Do not visit Kanagawa at this time."

According to a traffic survey conducted on the coast of Kamakura, the number of cars with license plates registered outside Kanagawa Prefecture decreased by half compared to April 19.
