The Kanagawa prefectural government issued its "Kanagawa Alert" Friday as the number of newly confirmed infections of the novel coronavirus has again been on the rise. The alert is the prefectural government's own warning measure for its residents.
Kanagawa Gov. Yuji Kuroiwa asked residents of the prefecture to restrain from going places where measures to prevent infections are not sufficiently implemented and asked businesses to adopt practices such as telecommuting and staggered commuting times.
The prefectural government stipulates that the alert is issued if the daily number of newly confirmed infections in the past week in the prefecture reaches 33 or more.
The number of newly confirmed infected people Friday was 43, and the average number from July 11 to Friday reached 33.43. Thus the numbers exceeded the criteria.
Since late June in the prefecture, infection clusters occurred in such places as "host clubs" -- night clubs where male staff attend to female customers and novel coronavirus infections have been spreading mainly among people in their 20s to 30s.
