Kameko's potential next targets revealed after luckless Sussex Stakes run at Goodwood

Kameko's connections are plotting their next move for the Classic winner on the back of his luckless run at Glorious Goodwood.

The 2,000 Guineas hero could not find a passage through in a top class renewal of the Qatar Sussex Stakes on July 29, eventually finishing fourth.

Oisin Murphy was boxed in on the rail as Mohaather swept by for the Marcus Tregoning and Jim Crowley combination.

The champion jockey will be back aboard Kameko on the gallops tomorrow – and if it all goes smoothly, he will bid to regain the winning thread later this month.

Deauville's Prix Jacques Le Marois over a mile on August 16 or the ten-furlong Juddmonte International, three days later at York, are the races being considered for the son of Kitten's Joy.

"We plan to make a decision after the weekend. Oisin will ride Kameko on Saturday morning," said David Redvers, racing manager for owners Qatar Racing.

"The team are happy with him at the moment so it could be the Jacques Le Marois or the Juddmonte.

"If he needs more time, he could skip those and run in the Irish Champion Stakes or the Prix du Moulin in September."

Murphy left Goodwood wondering what might have been, several weeks after an unusual renewal of the Derby on July 4.

Kameko's first try at 1m 4f yielded a fourth place behind all-the-way winner Serpentine, following on from his Classic exploits at Newmarket.

Back at a mile in last week's Group One, he crossed the line without being able to produce his finishing kick.

"It was just one of those unfortunate things," Redvers added.

"Goodwood can be tricky and often there are hard luck stories.

"His reputation wasn't damaged by it. We are hopeful he can show what he can do next time."
