Kamasa precision tool kit - review

My first ever tool purchase - when refurbishing a trashed Honda C50 as a 13-year-old - was a Taiwanese-made Kamasa socket set in Imperial and Metric, all arranged in a green tin case with a handle. It never failed and - apart from one missing half-inch socket - it’s still in use today, 43 years later.

The latest addition to Kamasa’s range - an incredibly comprehensive £30.46 precision screwdriver and accessory set - is likely to prove just as useful and long-lived.

Boasting an amazing 90 precision bits, it means you should be prepared for almost any ‘small’ job that comes up in the field of electronics, computers, electrics, even phones. Which means less money spent on repairmen.

All packaged in a neat double-sided plastic case with see-through lids, and measuring just 16x9x4.5 cms, it contains an astonishing array of pieces ranging from - of course - two extension bar handles (one flexible for access into awkward areas) to a set of tweezers and a stainless steel phone sim card extraction pin.

Other oddities include a magnetiser, two mini nylon crowbars, a suction cap with key ring and a pry disc. Among the more standard fare are eight nut drivers ranging from 2.5mm - 5.5mm, 10 Phillips bits, eight PzDrive bits, 14 flat ‘screwdriver’ bits, eight five-sided star bits, 20 six-sided star bits, and 22 hex bits.

As well made as that 43-year-old socket set, beautifully laid out and highly versatile, it will make fiddly jobs on cars, motorcycles and bicycles - but also spectacles, clocks, model cars and various household gizmos - so much easier, and cheaper.
