Kamala Harris escorted to inauguration by hero officer who drove rioters away from Senate

Soon to be Vice-President Kamala Harris was escorted to Joe Biden's inauguration by a heroic policeman who led rioters away from the Capitol during the riot two weeks ago.

Officer Eugene Goodman was branded a hero and has since been promoted for the actions he took to protect the Capitol on January 6, when an angry mob tried to break in.

The black policeman confronted the overwhelmingly white insurrectionists with just a baton and led them away from Senate chambers moments after Vice President Mike Pence was escorted from the chamber as the rioters stormed the building.

Today, he led Mrs Harris who is set to be the first woman and first black and Asian vice president of America, to the ceremony in Washington DC.

Officer Goodman was the only officer seen for more than a minute on a widely circulated footage captured by a news reporter.

He could be seen standing in front of the rioters and walks backward as the group follows him to a second-floor hallway, where other officers finally assist him.

His actions that day were recognised and he was given the ceremonial role to escort the new Vice President at the inauguration of Joe Biden.

Politicians from both sides want to recognise officer Goodman with a Congressional Gold Medal for potentially saving lives on one of the darkest days in US history.
