Kam Chancellor: Future Seattle Seahawks part owner?

Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor took to Twitter to express interest in the field of sports team ownership. He posed a question to his followers, asking if any NFL player has ever had a piece of team ownership.

Fans responded, bringing up John Elway (who was once offered part ownership of the Broncos but declined) and Warrick Dunn, who owns a minority stake in the Atlanta Falcons.

Someone suggested Chancellor become an owner. His career is effectively over because of a neck injury, but he still in the midst of a three-year, $36 million contract that guarantees him $20 million.

Chancellor called the idea “a dream come true,” saying he would “show them how to liven up an organization.”

Chancellor will finish his career with over $50 million in earnings, but that’s only 2 percent of the average value of an NFL team, which is about $2.5 billion.

Still, becoming a minority owner is certainly a possibility. The Seahawks are owned by Paul Allen’s sister Jody after the longtime owner died in 2018.

Jody Allen has not made any indication that she is planning to sell, but if she does, perhaps Chancellor will buy a little slice of the only NFL team he ever played for.
