England star Kalvin Phillips has suggested that he believes Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount would thrive at Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa.
The two young midfielders are currently spending time away with England for Euro 2020, with each of them having caught the eye in the Three Lions’ opening win against Croatia.
Phillips had a vital role to play in the victory as his bustling run saw him tee up Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling for the winning goal.
Now, the Leeds United man has revealed that fellow Three Lions teammate and Chelsea man Mount would be the most likely to succeed at Elland Road out of the current crop at St George’s Park.
Talking on The Lions’ Den YouTube show, the 25-year-old said: “I’d probably say Mason Mount. Me and Mason get on quite well, but it’s just the way we [Leeds] play, the way he presses in his position.
“Some of the positions he gets himself into would suit Leeds United. He would take the manager on board; take the way the manager works on board so quickly. Probably be a superstar if he came to Leeds.”
The praise from Phillips is just the latest in a long line of plaudits that Mount has earned this season. He was named Chelsea’s player of the year after netting nine goals in all competitions as the Blues lifted the UEFA Champions League and secured a place in the Premier League top four.
Phillips will certainly be hoping to continue his positive form for Gareth Southgate’s men alongside Mount in the centre of the park.
The Three Lions have a tough assignment on Friday as they face Scotland at Wembley Stadium before rounding off their group stage against the Czech Republic.
