Kalvin Phillips 'makes £60m Manchester United decision' and more transfer rumours

Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips will snub a £60million move to Manchester United next summer.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who report that the midfielder is concerned about the possible ramifications for his family should he leave his hometown club for United.

Phillips’ stock has risen greatly over the past year following a successful Euro 2020 as he helped England reach the final during the summer.

The 25-year-old is reported to have emerged as one of United’s major transfer targets as they look to add a holding midfielder to their ranks, with the position having proven a major issue this season.

But Phillips has reportedly told those close to him that he has no intentions of leaving Elland Road for United next summer, having been left worried by the backlash the likes of Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand and Alan Smith received for making the same move.

The report also states that Phillips’ decision could open the door for United’s rivals Liverpool to step in and make their own bid to take him to Anfield instead.

Elsewhere, Ralf Rangnick’s imminent arrival at Old Trafford could reportedly help United in their pursuit of Erling Haaland.

Rangnick is set to become United’s new interim manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and will take charge until the end of the current season.

Thereafter, he is expected to move into a consultancy role at Old Trafford, having been told there will be a role for him beyond next year.

And, according to AS (via Sportsmole), that could play into United’s hands as they target Haaland.

Rangnick played a key role in signing the Norwegian for Red Bull Salzburg back in 2019, and could use his prior experience to convince Haaland of a move to Old Trafford.

The Borussia Dortmund striker will have no shortage of suitors during the summer, when a £63m release clause will reportedly become active, with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all in the running.
