Kalvin Phillips gives modest answer on his huge Premier League valuation

Kalvin Phillips has joked about the transfer interest he received at Leeds United, saying that he wouldn’t pay the £20m quoted himself.

The midfielder showed humility as he sounded dumbfounded about the transfer figures in modern day football, but chose to take it is as a compliment.

Having just signed a new contract with Leeds, the club confirmed what was reported by the media over the summer - that there was Premier League interest in the player.

“Over the course of the summer transfer window, Phillips was subject to high profile interest from a number of Premier League sides, with the club rebuffing multiple offers in excess of £20m,” read an announcement on the official Leeds United website.

Phillips, 23, revealed that he was happy to stay at his boyhood club , and how he wanted to get the negotiations sorted so that he can focus fully on playing football again.

“I think it’s a bit crazy to be honest,” said Phillips. “If I was offering that money for a player, I don’t think I’d offer that much for me.

“I definitely don’t! I think it’s too much, but it’s always a compliment if someone’s willing to offer that much money to buy me.”
