Kallum Watkins' season over after Salford Red Devils star suffers devastating ACL injury

Kallum Watkins' dream of playing for England at this year's World Cup has been dashed after learning he had torn his ACL.

The Salford Red Devils star has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on the injury.

It's a cruel blow for the former Leeds Rhinos captain, who was expecting to miss around three months of action with an MCL and meniscus injury.

But after surgeons started the operation, they found his ACL had torn too.

He has now had successful surgery but is set to sit on the sidelines for almost a year, ending his season and his World Cup hopes.

"Not the news that I wanted to come out today," he posted on Instagram.

"So I went in for surgery on my meniscus and mcl. They have both been repaired.

"Unfortunately they had to check my ACL which they said they would do to then find out that it’s been torn as well.

"So at the moment I’m devastated with the news as I thought I would be out for 10 weeks, but now that has been extended

"My season is over but also was pushing hard to get into the England squad for the World Cup, that will not happen now.

"This is something that il (I'll) have to accept as a man and an athlete.

"These things happen."
