Kalidou Koulibaly delivers update on his future after Chelsea told to beat Liverpool to transfer

Kalidou Koulibaly has delivered an update on his future amid new links with a move to the Premier League.

The Napoli centre-back is no stranger to transfer links with the Premier League, with Manchester United and Chelsea both linked in the past.

The Blues were tipped to make a move for him during the summer of 2018 following Maurizio Sarri's arrival in west London from Napoli, but it was only Jorginho that Sarri returned to his old club to sign.

Blues legend frank Lebeouf even went as far as to tell Chelsea to beat Liverpool to his signing this summer, when talking about the talented defender last month.

Lampard frustrated after Sheffield United thrashing

Lebeouf told ESPN FC : "I will never ask him to go to Manchester United for many reasons. I want him to win some stuff and I think Manchester United is not the club that they used to be and they're not ready to win stuff.

“I think Liverpool would be a good fit with [Virgil] van Dijk, that would be fantastic.

"Paris Saint-Germain as well with Marquinhos, there would be two great central defenders.

"I think Chelsea will need a player like that. I don't know if Koulibaly will be interested, but even if they have two very good central defenders, Koulibaly I think belongs to another level and would fit very well.

"I know he has a link with Liverpool, Van Dijk and Koulibaly at the back - my God, that's going to be another Red season I guess.

"Definitely with Van Dijk, and when you're a defender like Koulibaly, that would be the best central defence in the world."

But Koulibaly is not thinking about leaving Serie A just yet.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport he delivered an update on his future over the weekend, saying: "In football, you never know what happens. I never spoke to Napoli about leaving. If we have to find a solution, we will find it, but I have never talked about the transfer market.

"I also read in the newspapers about my future. But I only want to think about playing, I am 100 per cent [committed to] Napoli and it bothers me to be linked, every day, to this or that European club.

"We will see what the president (Aurelio De Laurentiis) will decide and if he proposes to extend my contract, that would allow me to end my career here.

"At the moment, I still have a three-year contract and I am not thinking of anything else but Napoli."
