Frank Lampard has been told he must sign Kalidou Koulibaly, a goalkeeper and a left back for Chelsea to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City.
The Blues have already made waves with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, while another offensive move could be close in terms of Kai Havertz.
However, many of Lampard's issues this season have been in defence with Chelsea conceding more than anyone else in the top ten.
Clinton Morrison told BBC Five Live : "They need three [more transfers], I think they need a left-back, a centre-half and a goalkeeper. If they get that they will be challenging Liverpool and Man City because of some of the players they've brought in Ziyech, Werner, Havertz, if he comes in these are outstanding players.
"They've already got Pulisic who has been sensational since he's come back, he's so sharp. Olivier Giroud is still scoring goals, he might not be a regular, he probably won't with Werner coming in and Tammy Abraham.
"They've got a lot of attacking options but I think goalkeeper is a massive thing for Chelsea. They've been trying to get Ben Chilwell, will they get him? I'm not sure.
"If I want a centre-half I would go and get Koulibaly at Napoli, I think he's excellent, a lot of clubs have been watching him. Go and buy him. I don't think Chelsea are miles away."
