Celebrity fans of Leeds United and Manchester City lock horns in band spat over music festival

A star of Leeds' own Kaiser Chiefs had a laugh at Liam Gallagher's expense after the Mancunian cancelled his performance at a Romanian festival.

The former Oasis man and Manchester City fan tweeted to say that he would not appear at the Fall in Love Festival on Sunday (September 1) after being 'advised not to perform' due to safety issues with the stage.

The Kaiser Chiefs performed to thousands at Leeds United's Elland Road stadium earlier this summer, and they were also on the bill in Romania, where they did take to the stage in the slot before Gallagher's.

Gallagher was the only festival act to cancel his set, and the Kaiser Chiefs keyboardist Nick 'Peanut' Baines appeared to poke fun at him after his no-show.

Speaking on Twitter, he said: "If we found out a stage wasn’t safe, we’d tell the other bands on there too, right? ‘Safety comes first as always’ - for everyone. We must’ve broken it by putting on a rock n roll show 30mins before you #fallinlovefest."

Whilst the Kaiser Chiefs man is no doubt just poking fun, you wouldn't bet against a trademark Gallagher response on Twitter.

In the meantime, Gallagher has been tipped as a potential Leeds Festival 2020 headliner by the bookies.
