Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson 'hopeful' kids will stop climate crisis ending in disaster

As climate change becomes the defining crisis of our time, happening even more quickly than many feared, most of us are all doing our bit to ensure we prevent oncoming disaster - including Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson.

The 43-year-old has teamed up with Arla Lactofree as the global dairy company launches a new planet-friendlier cartoon.

Alongside children from a primary school in his home county of Yorkshire, the talented singer has created an innovate art piece made from renewable materials to celebrate the brand's aim to become more sustainable.

Ahead of the campaign, the former Voice UK coach revealed how he believes the next generation of "future consumers" can give us hope, and how it doesn't all have to be "doom and gloom" when it comes to trying to save the planet.

The singer was chatting with us ahead of a new campaign with Arla Lactofree (Oliver Dixon)

"As individuals, we're all coming round to it," the singer told us when asked how he feels we're combatting climate change as a nation.

"When I grew up, it was mainly about turning off the lights [to save on bills] and so you didn't get in trouble [with your parents]. Now it's the kids telling their parents to turn the lights off, so it's all switched around.

"I hate to sound corny, but they're the future," he continued.

"In a few years time, they will not put up with companies not making pledges and [doing their bit]. Arlo has committed to being carbon net zero by 2050 which is a big thing to do.

"We think 'Oh 2050, that's a long way away' but these kids that I was working with the other day, they'll be in their twenties and they'll have the power to use these businesses and businesses understand that."

Alongside children from Settle and Kirkby Primary School, Ricky recently put 1800 of the new Arla Lactofree cartoons to good use, creating an eco-friendly inspired art piece on a farm in West Yorkshire.

The star revealed he prefers to lean in "on hope" over fear (Oliver Dixon)

As the kids, and Ricky, learnt all about the cartoon's green credentials as they created a masterpiece, the Brit Award winning singer left feeling hopeful about the planet's fate being in the hands of young people.

"Me trotting down the road with my bag for life is great, but there's so much more to do," the recently married star explained.

"It [global warming] is a crisis but I think what works for me is leaning on hope rather than fear and what the future generation have is a lot more hope than fear."

The star, who has a degree in Graphic Arts and Design, also revealed that he prefers to focus on the positives rather than discussing the "doom and gloom" motivations for being more eco-conscious.

"Me and my best mate Craig, we're talking about doing a show together for kids," the Art Jam Presenter disclosed.

"He works in the sea and he's kind of had enough of the doom and gloom and he wants to lean in on the positives. "

"I think the positives are fair more educational for people - where you can see that you can do something rather than just worrying about the end of the world."

"Although it's a crisis, there's a lot of hope," the star finished, on an optimistic note.

"Like doing this piece of art work which was a brilliant day out, lots of fun and a day out in the country. It was something positive."
