Kaiser Chiefs record stay at home version of 'Oh My God' during coronavirus lockdown

Kaiser Chiefs are the latest band to use music to encourage fans to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Rocking out from their own homes, the indie band virtually came together to perform a “Stay Home Edition” of their 2005 hit song, “Oh My God”.

Led by singer Ricky Wilson, the new lyrics mention the “Clap for our Carers” campaign, banana bread, Tiger King and Joe Wicks’ daily YouTube PE lessons.

In the chorus, the memorable lyrics of “Oh my God I can’t believe it, I’ve never been this far away from home”, are changed to “Oh my God I can’t believe it, I’ve never spent this much time at home”.

The song debuted on Chris Moyles’ Radio X show on Tuesday, after a listener jokingly suggested that Kaiser Chiefs should re-record a version of the song for lockdown.

Last week, 76-year-old Randy Newman shared a new song for the pandemic titled “Stay Away”, advising people to: “Stay six feet away from people, wash your hands, religiously, and often and don’t touch your face”.

Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher has helped Oasis fans keep clean by reworking “Wonderwall”, “Supersonic” and “Champagne Supernova” to include messages about washing hands regularly.
