Kaiser Chiefs and The Streets to play UK's first ever drive-in gigs

Twelve venues across the UK will be hosting drive-in music performances this summer to comply with coronavirus-related social distancing restrictions.

Kaiser Chiefs, The Streets and Dizzee Rascal are among the artists who will play, as part of a series called Utilita Live from the Drive-In.

Fans will be provided with private individual viewing zones next to their cars throughout the gigs.

Cities including London, Liverpool and Birmingham will host the performances, which will permit 300 cars at each event.

Other groups confirmed to feature include: Ash, Beverley Knight, Bjorn Again, Brainiac Live, Brand New Heavies, Camp Bestival Live, Cream Classical Ibiza, Embrace, Gary Numan, Jack Savoretti, Lightning Seeds, Nathan Dawe, Reggae Roast Vs Gentleman’s Dub Club, Russell Watson, Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason, Sigala, Skindred, The Snuts, The Zutons and Tony Hadley.

Tickets can be purchased from the Live Nationwebsite.

Similar plans have also been made around Europe. In Denmark, singer-songwriter Mads Langer performed to 500 cars in May.

In the UK, drive-in cinemas have also sprung up in select locations, as the entertainment industry seeks to adapt to the social distancing regulations.

Brick-and-mortar cinemas are scheduled to reopen in early July, although social distancing will mean that screens will offer reduced capacities.

Four-hundred-and-fifty popular films have been selected to run in English cinemas while there is a shortage of new releases; these include the Harry Potter films, The Fast and Furious franchise and Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.
