Kai Kennedy transfer battle as Rangers reject West Ham and Ligue 1 interest

Rangers have knocked back three bids for starlet Kai Kennedy as English Premier League sides track the star.

The 19-year-old only signed a new Ibrox deal at the start of this year to keep him at the Premiership champions until 2023.

However, Record Sport understands that West Ham, Norwich and an unnamed French side have all made an approach for the playmaker.

Rangers have stood firm and shut down any interest so far in the window and and remain keen to keep the talent on their books.

It remains to be seen if he will spend the season in the top flight or will be sent out on loan.

Kennedy spent last season on loan at Inverness Caley Thistle and Raith Rovers and impressed during his stint in the Championship.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has spoken highly of Kennedy and raved about the Scotland youth cap after including him in his first-team squad back in 2019.

He said: “People look at Kai like he's this wee player who doesn't belong with men but he's trained like a man all week.

"He's been the most consistent and he's a fabulous little player. It wasn't just a token gesture because he's a kid.”

Sporting director Ross Wilson has heaped praise on the starlet, stating after he penned his latest deal: "Kai consistently stated during all of our conversations that his ultimate ambition is to be a successful Rangers player and we are pleased we have a clear plan that allows him to move towards achieving the ambition he has held since joining our academy as a young lad.

“He has progressed beyond our B Team and he needs to develop and influence strongly at first-team level now. We were pleased with his performances at Inverness and thank John Robertson for his work with Kai."
