Kai Kennedy set for bumper Rangers deal as Ibrox youngster on verge of loan move

Kai Kennedy is set to hand Rangers a boost by singing a new long-term deal at Ibrox.

The midfielder will spend the rest of the season on loan at Raith Rovers after he puts pen-to-paper on a contract extension.

Glasgow Live Sport revealed in November that talks over a new deal between the player and the Ibrox club had resumed after initially breaking down.

Kennedy wanted assurances that he’d get opportunities to play under Steven Gerrard and that his development wouldn’t stall if he committed his future to the club.

It seems he’s now been told what he wants to hear and has opted to remain with the Scottish Premiership leaders.

Kennedy is currently on loan at Inverness CT and has impressed for the Highlanders in the Championship.

However, manager John Robertson feared Rangers would recall Kennedy this month and those fears have been eased now that a new contract has been agreed.

"The initial deal was to January,” said Robertson last month. “If Rangers are to leave him out on loan, we have the first option on that loan. If Rangers want him to stay on loan, I don’t think there’s any problem there.

"If he continues to play as he has done in recent weeks, the problem we may have is that Rangers may want him for their first team."
