Kai Kennedy recalled by Rangers as John Hughes reveals decision to bring youngster back from Dunfermline loan

Rangers youngster Kai Kennedy has been recalled by the Ibrox club from his loan spell at Dunfermline.

The 19-year-old made 15 appearances for the Pars since joining in the summer on a season-long deal, scoring his only goal in last month's 3-3 draw with Queen of the South.

But manager John Hughes revealed after a 0-0 draw with Raith Rovers, with Kennedy omitted from the Fife side's squad entirely, that the loan has been cut short and he's on his way back to Ibrox.

Hughes said: "I don’t think we’ll see Kai again.

"Rangers have done a recall. He’ll be going back there.

"We missed him against Raith. It would have been nice to have him.

"I’m not saying he would have started but he might just have got a shot, and could have given us a nice going away present."

Kennedy penned a fresh contract with the Premiership champions at the start of last year after months of speculation.

He was recalled from Inverness in the process and sent on loan to Raith Rovers instead, in order to be closer to family in the depths of lockdown.

His new deal runs to 2023 and first-team manager Gio van Bronckhorst could assess the youngster for his senior squad or send him on loan to another club in January.
