Kai Havertz 'very interested' in Chelsea transfer but next two games are crucial

Kai Havertz is reportedly "very interested" in a move to Chelsea - but Frank Lampard's side must secure Champions League football to land the attacker.

Chelsea will put their FA Cup ambitions on the backburner after beating Manchester United 3-1 in Sunday's semi-final.

Before their Wembley showdown against Arsenal on August 1, the Stamford Bridge side face two huge Premier League games against Liverpool and Wolves as they bid to ensure a top-four spot.

That task was made easier on Sunday by Leicester's 3-0 defeat to Tottenham, which means one win from Chelsea's remaining two games will be enough to qualify for Europe's top club competition next season.

But there will be no room for complacency against either the Premier League champions on Wednesday or a Wolves team targeting European qualification themselves next Sunday.

And while Chelsea will need no extra motivation to secure a Champions League place, it appears their success in that respect will be critical in persuading top target Havertz to take the next step in his career.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all been linked with the Germany international - but Chelsea are still in pole position, according to Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones.

"He is interested, very interested actually. He really wants to push himself and Leverkusen are pretty surprised at how focused he is on finding a new club," Jones said in an interview with Talkchelsea.

"He definitely wants Champions League football though so we will have to wait on that situation to be decided before knowing much more."

But if the 21-year-old attacking midfielder signs at Stamford Bridge, it could be bad news for one current member of Lampard's squad.

"If he joins then I'm not sure what the future holds for [Callum] Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea," said Jones.

Havertz has posted 17 goals and nine assists in all competitions for Leverkusen this season.

Leverkusen missed out on a place in next season's Champions League as they finished fifth in the Bundesliga, two points outside the top four.
