Kai Havertz trolls Callum Hudson-Odoi on Instagram days after winger started against Aston Villa

Chelsea's players are busy preparing for visit of Manchester City to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, as Frank Lampard's side look to return to winning ways.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Tuesday evening, days after a 3-1 defeat to London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite a promising start to the season which saw them labelled as outsiders for the Premier League title, Chelsea's form has stuttered in recent weeks and Blues boss Lampard will be desperate for three points against City.

Against Villa, Lampard freshened up his side by dropping the likes of summer signing Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham, and handing starts to Olivier Giroud and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Frank Lampard press conference after Villa draw

Lampard had previously confirmed that Hudson-Odoi would be starting after an impressive cameo from the bench against Arsenal, and the England international was again one of Chelsea's bright spots as they struggled to break Aston Villa down.

There was again no room for Kai Havertz in the starting line-up, with the German international having to settle for a place on the bench.

Since joining Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, Havertz is yet to replicate the form which saw the Blues break their club transfer record to sign him, scoring only one goal in 14 league appearances.

After contracting Covid-19 in November, the 21-year-old has struggled to regain his place in the Chelsea first team, but Lampard has backed the midfielder to prove his worth in the coming months.

"Before he fell ill and turned in a positive test, I thought his form was fantastic," Lampard said last month.

"He played some really good stuff in the number eight role, the advanced midfield role and I was delighted for him. You could see he was enjoying it, but Covid cut that short.

"Long term, I have no concerns. In fact, I feel quite the opposite. He is going to be a huge player for this football club, in the Premier League, as he has all the attributes and attitude to be an absolutely top-class player for the league and in the world.

"That's how highly I rate him and I think people that analyse him, it can be quick reactions at times involving price tags and so on.

"But I think we have to understand that some of the best players that have come to this country have found it quite hard for some time to get used to the Premier League and I think Kai has actually been very good.

"Covid has made it difficult for him but he is a top player and will be a top player for us."

Ahead of the clash against Manchester City clash, Havertz showed he was in good spirits by cracking a joke at the expense of teammate Hudson-Odoi on social media.

The England winger posted a new year message to fans on his Instagram page, with a picture of himself sitting in a car and the caption: "Happy new year everyone!! Stay blessed, Stay healthy!!"

Havertz was quick to reply with: "Yes you have a G class okey," poking fun at the winger's apparent showing off of his Mercedes vehicle.
