Kai Havertz transfer 'agreed' as Chelsea set to make German their record signing

Chelsea look set to break their club transfer record after reportedly reaching an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the sale of Kai Havertz.

Talks between both clubs have been ongoing for weeks as Leverkusen held firm on their valuation of their star man.

Original reports suggested Chelsea were hopeful of landing the forward for around £70million but BILD state a total package of £100million has now been agreed.

The structured deal will see Chelsea pay £80m up front with a further £20m dependant on clauses.

Some of those clauses are thought to be fairly achievable, such as regularly qualifying for the Champions League and going beyond the group stage.

Others are more unpredictable as they relate to Chelsea winning silverware with the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup the prime targets.

Of the total fee Leverkusen expect to receive at least £90million of it, eclipsing the £71m fee The Blues paid for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.

Havertz is set to sign a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge with the clauses thought to refer to his achievements within that timeframe.

Even the less realistic stipulations could well come to fruition though given Roman Abramovich's clear ambitions in the transfer market.

Havertz will become Chelsea's third signing of the summer, providing he passes a routine medical, and there are more arrivals lined up to follow.

Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell could be next through the door in a £50m switch, though only if he gets in ahead of PSG defender Thiago Silva who is poised to sign on a free transfer in a one-year deal.

BILD add that Chelsea and Leverkusen hope to announce the transfer of Havertz no later than Friday, which would allow the 21-year-old to join up with his new teammates as preparations ramp up for the start of the new season.

Havertz scored 18 times in 45 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last season and can play in several positions across the front line or in midfield.
